Unflappable: Soaring Beyond a Diagnosis is available for pre-order now and will be released on September 30th.
How you can help
I’m thrilled to share this book with my long-time Unflappable audience—you helped bring this project to life (seriously!) There are a handful of ways you can help my book reach new readers. We’ll break this into two parts: during pre-order, and after book launch.
During pre-order
Share my author site—unflappable.press. This is the simplest way to introduce someone to this book, and to me as an author, and I tried to make it extremely simple to pre-order. I had a lot of fun building this site and hopefully it catches the interest of potential readers.
Share the ebook giveaway. Maybe a friend of yours is on the fence about pre-ordering a book by some unknown author. Well, they can enter to win free ebook over on Goodreads. It’s also worth mentioning that if they order the ebook directly from unflappable.press, it’s only $4.99.
Tell people to follow me online. Not everyone is into Substack, I get it. I am on the other socials: Facebook, Instagram, and even Goodreads. You can even find me by typing “Jonathan Hutton author” into Google (hadn’t tried this until just now; frankly a little surprised there’s so much of me out there…including a video of a recent podcast interview 😬).
ℹ️ If you would like a stack of bookmarks to hand out, please send me a note and I will get you some!
After book launch
Post a review online. It’s going to be immensely helpful to have reviews on Amazon, bookshop.org, and Goodreads, so if you’d like to help, please set yourself a reminder to post a review once you’ve read the book. You also add a comment to this post or email me and I’d be happy to remind you. I will also be excerpting parts of reviews for use on my site and in marketing materials.
Take photos and videos and share them on social media. I have a dim view of this whole enterprise (especially meta), but it falls into the necessary evil column. Take snapshots of your cool pre-order swag items, tag me, link to the pre-order page, link to this Substack. Ask a Gen-Zer for help. Get creative with it.
Tell your friends. Word of mouth is a powerful tool. Referrals from trusted people helped me find my editor and cover designer. Your friends trust you, so share this book with them. Are you in a book club? Tell them. Do your coworkers read books? Give them an Unflappable bookmark. Would your churchgoing friends read a memoir by someone you know? Tell them to buy it.
Talk to your local bookstore owner. Unflappable is being distributed in print by Ingram, which is the wholesaler most bookstore buy from. Share why the story is important to you, tell them others customers would probably buy it (look at that cover! It really pops). It’s a low-risk proposition to stock a handful of copies, so it’s worth dropping by and asking.
Come to an in-person event. Invite your friends! I want to get as many people as we can to these readings; I want to push the limits of building capacity. Many of you will have finished the book by the time these events happen—you are welcome to send me inputs on sections you’d like me to read. We will have so much fun, I can guarantee you this. I’d also suggest that you jot down any questions that came to mind as you read the book, or after you finished it. Ask me anything! If you plan on attending and haven’t RSVP’d yet, please do so (links below).
I am headed off to France next week and will be taking a little break from Substack, but expect stories and photos shortly after I return!
Love the picture of Mabel! I preordered my book. And I do remember Jonathan in Frankfort when I visited ☺️.
